Contact UsNothing. It’s just another way of saying the same thing. It stands for Un-plasticised Poly Vinyl Chloride - or Poly Vinyl Chloride Un-plasticised, depending on the order of the words. PVC is a lightweight and robust type of plastic that can be found in many different consumer goods, but it’s the ‘u’ part that makes the material ideal for modern windows. The term ‘un-plasticised’ means that the material hasn’t been softened and therefore weakened during the production process, resulting in a tougher more robust material that is suitable for home improvements such as double glazing, patio and bi-fold doors, conservatories, and much more.
The difference is in the material used for the window frames: uPVC windows are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), while aluminium windows are made from an aluminium alloy. uPVC windows are usually cheaper and thanks to better insulation properties, they tend to be more energy efficient. Aluminium windows are stronger and more rigid and can have a much sleeker, less-intrusive frame. Because of its strength, it’s also possible to have larger windows in aluminium frames than with uPVC frames.
It all depends on the quality of the product and how well it was installed. Typically, uPVC windows should last at least 20 years without needing repairing or replacing. Some cheaper products might only last 10 years, whereas premium products could last well over 30 years. Our range of windows will look great and perform like new for many years.
Yes, if you are in a position to do so. Fitting all of your new windows at the same time may seem more expensive than replacing a few at a time, but in the long run, it is more efficient to replace them all at once. The installation time, and therefore associated costs, will be lower, there will be less disruption to your home, and you can start enjoying the full potential of any energy savings immediately too.
Yes, lots. Our windows are available in a range of colours and textured foils, including several timber-effect finishes to mimic the look of traditional timber frame windows. Our aluminium windows can be powder coated in any RAL colour you choose.
The Window Energy Rating (WER) is a system that was created in order to help consumers compare the energy efficiency of different window brands. The WER is based on five factors: thermal transmittance, air infiltration, solar heat gain reduction, sound transmission, and condensation.
